Welcome to Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival is an international celebration of the art of film, in the border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed.

The 2014 Festival takes place from 17 – 21 September, once again transforming the town of Berwick into one big cinema screen through film premieres, site-specific installations and live events in locations across Berwick and along the town walls, attracting over 8,000 visitors, and artists and filmmakers from all corners of the UK and Europe to Berwick.

2014 sees our the arrival of our 10th edition; less than 3% of film festivals reach such a landmark and we are incredibly proud of that achievement, and indebted to the town of Berwick as well as all of our supporters over the years.

This year, with our theme Border Crossing, we will once again take audiences on a journey, setting out to cross and transcend borders in all directions, exploring border identities all over the world. Berwick-upon-Tweed makes an ideal starting point: a border town in a region once known as ‘the debatable lands,’ with an identity neither English nor Scottish, but all of its own. Taking place in the same week as the historic Scottish independence referendum, and marking our tenth anniversary edition, the Festival will bring together independent film and artists’ video to explore boundaries – on the map and in the mind – and the spaces in between. We hope you can join us!
