Local Info
With its unique geographical location as the most northerly town in England almost sitting on the easternmost part of the English/Scottish border, Berwick-upon-Tweed reflects a culture neither specifically English nor Scottish, but all of its own.
The town population, last estimated officially at over 12,000 has increased significantly in the last two years due to an inflow of residents from Newcastle and Edinburgh. People increasingly seek a better quality of life: miles of unspoilt sandy beaches, fresh sea air, wonderful wildlife, riverside walks, friendly townsfolk, easy access to great rolling landscapes.
The Town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is constituted of 3 distinct parts; the historic centre on the north bank of the Tweed, Tweedmouth on the south of the river and Spittal, with its great beach and Victorian architecture.
