Opportunity: Volunteer Coordinator

We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator to join us for the 13th edition of Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, who will be responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling and coordinating our 2017 Volunteer Team.

Volunteers are the face of Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, and vital to its delivery. Each year a team of 70 volunteers come together to assist in the delivery and the presentation of the Festival, taking on roles from stewarding exhibitions and film screenings, staffing information desks, carrying out evaluation surveys among other duties.

The ideal candidate should be passionate about working with others, have some project management and coordination experience, and feel confident in managing a large volunteer team while working alongside the existing Festival staff team to ensure the smooth delivery of BFMAF’s 13th edition.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience of working as part of an exciting and dynamic Festival.

Other responsibilities will include the promotion of the volunteer call out on social media, as well as through partner organisations and networks, organising volunteer travel, accommodation, equipment and subsistence, monitoring and evaluating the Volunteer experience, and assisting with the overall delivery of the Festival as appropriate and commensurate with the job role.

The role will run between 1 August – 29 September and operate on a part-time basis, beginning with approximately 2 days per week in August and increasing to full-time during the Festival period. This is a freelance contract so working from home and flexible hours will be possible, however, due to the nature of the work, the successful candidate will need to come to the Festival's office in Berwick-upon-Tweed regularly (particularly during the immediate run-up and delivery of the Festival).

For more information, download the job specification.

To apply: please email a CV and letter of interest explaining why you are interested in this opportunity and how you meet the person specification (no more than 500 words) to: info@berwickfilm-artsfest.com. Please include details of two referees.

Please also complete the equal opportunities monitoring form.

Deadline for applications is Friday 30 June 2017.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:

Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival (BFMAF) is one of the UK’s leading festivals for new cinema and artists’ moving image. BFMAF supports fresh artistic voices to develop and attracts audiences hungry for complex and challenging art. Recognised for its innovative programme and critical engagement, BFMAF presents artists’ and filmmakers’ work in the cinema as well as exhibition, installation and performance.

“Berwick shows how art remains vital to public debate and the tattered public sphere […] it demonstrates the way in which a small community with real intent can educate, provoke and resist.” (John Douglas Millar, Art Monthly)

13th EDITION: Taking place in historic venues across England’s most northerly town, BFMAF 2017 will include exhibitions, film screenings and live events, as well as a young filmmakers’ award, school screenings and family activities. The Festival hosts the Berwick New Cinema competition, an annual prize for the very best in artists’ moving image and new filmmaking.
